Day 2

Today I:
  • completed my first full day of researching at the National Taiwan Normal University's (NTNU) Graduate Institute of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (CSL)  [國立台灣師範大學華語文教學研究所]
  • ate lunch at McDonald's  [麥當勞]
  • ate dinner at Shida Night Market [師大夜市]
  • took a stroll through Daan Park [大安森林公園]
  • briefly walked through Sogo Dept. Store
1.  This is the NTNU building.

The inscription on the statue reads:

校訓[xiàoxùn] = school motto

誠正勤樸 [chéng zhèng qín pǔ] = honest, right, diligent, simple.

2.  Alan, a fellow Houstonian at NTNU!

NOTE:  We did not purposely wear matching purple polos and khakis.

3.  The Center for Chinese Language and Culture Studies (CLLC) [國語教學中心]

4.  The Graduate Dept.

5.  The library [圖書室] where I do research

6.  What Alan wanted for lunch...

7.  My first McDonald's meal (probably not the last...) in Taipei [台北]

Pinyin:  bǎn kǎo mǐ xiāng bǎo.  Unfortunately, I cannot remember the English translation.  Personally, it tasted like a bulgogi burger .

8.  A close-up of my "burger."

It consisted of a rice patty, slices of sizzling beef, caramelized onions, red cabbage and lettuce.  Drink selections included red tea, black tea, milk tea, and iced coffee.

9.  Night Market Dinner

Clearly Alan likes Korean food [韓式食物].

10.  My sizzling noodles with vegetables in a stone bowl [石頭麵]

Total cost?  100 元 = $3.08

A packed second day, don'tcha think?
