"Sex DVDs spark chaos"

Sex DVDs spark chaos by Fu Yingqing -- AN offer for free sex education DVDs at an adult products expo sparked mayhem yesterday, with over-eager visitors grabbing anything they could get their hands on, including for-sale videos.

Look at the faces of the oogling guys .  One guy's trying to look up her skirt, another guy is fantasizing, and the rest are eagerly snapping photos for later.  Ew.

Cyber-marriage?

Cyber-marriage can be addictive by Wu Chen -- A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been married 10 times, each lasting from hours to a year.

Seriously?  This sounds like SIMS gone wrong.

Article 2- An Update:

Foreign love denied by Fu Yingqing -- HUNDREDS of local women who signed up for the chance to attend a matchmaking party with 11 single or divorced men visiting town for a week from the United States have had their hearts broken by city officials.

A Hot (weather-wise) Weekend in Hang Zhou

Destinations Visited:  Zhejiang University(浙江大学), Xihu Lake (西湖), Xihu tiandi (西湖天地), Lei Feng Pagoda (雷锋塔).

If you could post three pictures to represent your trip to Hang Zhou, which would they be?

1.  The boat trip on the Xihu Lake

These boat trips are supposed to be romantic, but it was like 200 degrees, the stupid boatman refused to use a top cover for shade until near the end, and he wouldn't let Will row (like he said he would).

2.  Sight-seeing with Elaine!

Elaine and I at the Lei Feng pagoda.  Again, it was 200 degrees and I thought I was going to melt.  However, I am so glad we visited my awesome Wu-mate and she was gracious enough to guide us around HZ.

3.  The view of Xihu Lake from the Pagoda

Actually, now that I think about it, these probably aren't the three most representative pictures.  Oh well, Will would kill me if I posted a copy of our group sticker pictures .

Random but funny note:

Elaine's definition of what fobby romantic couples must do in HZ:

  1. The boyfriend must hold the girlfriend's purse.
  2. He must buy her a balloon.
  3. They must wear matching outfits.

Off to Hang Zhou!

After more than a week of coughing and blowing our noses, I am glad to report that Will and I are almost fully recovered .  I can't tell you how great it feels to get my energy back; I hate feeling like a zombie or not being able to taste my food.

Thus, today we plan to take either a bus or train to Hang Zhou and meet up with my D.C. "Wu-mate" Elaine for the weekend!  Hopefully I will snap some photos to end this photo drought.

I do apologize for the lack of sufficient updates -- due to various reasons --on my research and time here in Shanghai.  My days typically include the following:  encountering red tape at a university, surveying students, eating meals at various restaurants in a department store, lots of walking and sweating, watching either "Naruto" or "Lois and Clark," and reading the Shanghai Daily and New York Times online.

I try reading the Houston Chronicle online for updates on Houston, but the pitiful website offers little more than "exciting" tidbits on the Andrea Yates trial, crime reports, "juicy" gossip that doesn't interest me, and other articles that sadly pass for "news."  Can any Houstonians give me the inside scoop on what's really worth hearing about in Houston?  I'd greatly appreciate it .
